Conservation

Our chapter takes seriously its mission of protecting our region's coldwater fisheries and watersheds. We have many streams that boast native cutthroat trout in our area and we work hard to protect them and to add even more habitat for this fragile species.
Our conservation activities include: restoration of native cutthroat habitat in Hermosa Creek; annual clean-ups on the Animas River; strong participation in River Protection Workgroups to protect local rivers and helping search for solutions for the mine drainage problem in the upper Animas.
Five Rivers Trout Unlimited seeks to work with all sides on the political front on issues relating to protecting our streams. We believe in developing cooperative relationships with the widest possible spectrum of stakeholders to form durable community-based solutions to protecting our coldwater resources.
